Google's New Sodar Tool Helps Android Smartphone Users Maintain Social Distancing

Sodar works through Google-made Chrome browsers on Android smartphones that support augmented reality.

Smartphone users have a new way to keep their distance — a tool that lets them know when people are getting closer than pandemic guidelines recommend.

The Google-developed Sodar tool available this week taps into Android smartphone cameras to put users in the centre of a white circle with a radius of about two meters, or 6.5 feet.

The perimeter, determined based on pandemic social distancing guidelines, is made using the same kind of augmented reality technology in smartphone games such as Pokemon Go.

Circles superimposed on surroundings move with users, keeping smartphones in the centre. Users get a visual warning when they are within the potentially hazardous radius.

Sodar works through Google-made Chrome browsers on Android smartphones that support augmented reality, according to the California-based internet firm.

"This experiment uses (the application program interface) WebXR to visualise 2-metre social-distancing guidelines in your environment," a message at the website said.

PUBG "Addicted" Minors Steal 20 Mobiles In Delhi To Play With Friends: Cops

PUBG "Addicted" Minors Steal 20 Mobiles In Delhi To Play With Friends: Cops

The owner of the shop filed a complaint with police on Friday and alleged that 20 mobile phones, 30 mobile batteries, Ludo and Chess sets have been stolen from his shop.

Two minors were today apprehended in Delhi after they allegedly broke into a shop and stole 20 smartphones to play online game PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) with their friends, police said.

The minors' phones were malfunctioning and they also wanted their friends to join, police said.

The incident took place on the intervening night of 28th-29th May in South Delhi's Naibsarai area.

The owner of the shop filed a complaint with police on Friday and alleged that 20 mobile phones, 30 mobile batteries, Ludo and Chess sets have been stolen from his shop.

The police detained the two minors today and recovered all the stolen goods.

During the interrogation, the two minors said that they are addicted to PUBG and wanted to include some of their friends in the game too, police said.

They told police that there are certain tasks in PUBG that can only be attempted when a group of gamers play together.

There have been many incidents in the past when PUBG addiction has led minors to commit crime.

In October last year, a 16-year-old boy had allegedly faked his own kidnapping and sought ransom from his parents after they took away his mobile phone in Hyderabad.

The boy had left for Mumbai.

During his journey, he called his mother from a passenger's phone and called his mother. Impersonating another man, he told her that "her son" had been kidnapped and demanded Rs 3 lakh as ransom.

In February last year, an 18-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself after he had an argument with his family members over buying a new mobile phone for PUBG.

  • Amazon’s Fire TV Stick has some new features that will make the life of people sitting at home browsing content a bit easier. These features were available with Amazon’s own Prime Video app but the company has added support for a variety of new popular content apps.

Everyone has Facebook avatars now. Here's how to make your own

Everyone has Facebook avatars now. Here's how to make your own

Show off your new Bitmoji- and Memoji-style self on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Avatars have been around for years, and now they've come to Facebook's. The social network may trail years behind Yahoo, Bitmoji and Apple's Memoji avatars, but the newest Facebook addition is filling your newsfeed with a variety of faces, hairstyles and outfits. Introduced last week, Facebook avatars let you create a cartoony character to resemble yourself, which you can use as stickers in comments, stories and Facebook Messenger.

In addition, your avatar can be used in place of your Facebook profile picture and can be used in text messages on your phone. You can also send the avatar stickers in apps like Snapchat, Twitter, Mail and Instagram.

Ready to dive in? Here's how to create your own Facebook avatar on your iPhone ($699 at Apple) or Android phone right now.

1. Open the Facebook app on your phone and tap the hamburger menu (three stacked lines). It could be in the lower right corner for iPhone and in the upper right corner for Android.

2. Scroll down and tap See More.

3. Select Avatars.

4. Tap Next and then Get Started.

5. Select your preferred skin tone (there are 27 options) and tap Next

6. You'll then be instructed to choose a hairstyle for your avatar. You can select Short, Medium or Long for a variety of styles. Once you've made your selection, tap the Color icon.

7. Next, you'll move on to your avatar's Face icon, where you'll select the face shape, complexion and face lines.

8. After you've customized the face, tap the Eye icon. Select an eye shape, color and lash length. Then move on to the Eyebrows icon and select the brow shape and color. You can also add glasses.

9. Now it's time to customize the nose and mouth. Select your nose shape and then move on to your lips shape. You can also add a lip color and facial hair.

10. Next, select a body shape. Once you do this, you can choose an outfit that you like best. You can also choose to add a hat, scarf or cat ears to your avatar's outfit.

11. Once you're finished customizing your avatar, tap the check mark icon in the upper right corner. Tap Next and then Done.

When you want to use it, you can access the avatar you made by tapping the smiley face icon in the Write a comment section of Facebook.

That's it! Now you have a Facebook avatar that you can share with your friends.

According to Twitter's Director of Product Suzanne Xie, the platform has been since 2019 working to give people more control over their conversations starting with the ability to hide replies and so the company has started to test a new functionality which will let a user decide who can reply to tweets and take part in a conversation.

Twitter plans to make conversation on its platform a little more personal by adding a new feature. According to Twitter's Director of Product Suzanne Xie, the platform has been since 2019 working to give people more control over their conversations starting with the ability to hide replies and so the company has started to test a new functionality which will let a user decide who can reply to tweets and take part in a conversation.

Explaining the rationale behind introducing the new feature which will let the Twitterati decide on who can take part in the conversation, Suzanne explained that while Twitter remains a platform where one goes to see and talk about what’s happening "but sometimes, unwanted replies make it hard to have meaningful conversations".

Testing, testing...

A new way to have a convo with exactly who you want. We’re starting with a small % globally, so keep your out to see it in action.

Twitter tweeted a 46-second long video about the new test feature mentioning about the functionality. "Testing, testing... A new way to have a convo with exactly who you want. We’re starting with a small % globally, so keep your Eyes out to see it in action."

A Twitter handle will have three options about the reply feature before tweeting. While the standard Twitter default setting will remain everyone the user will be able to limit the conversation to only people you follow, or only people you mention. "Tweets with the latter two settings will be labeled and the reply icon will be grayed out so that it’s clear for people if they can’t reply. People who can’t reply will still be able to view, Retweet, Retweet with Comment, and like these Tweets," the blog by Suzanne stated.

The test feature has been rolled out to a limited number of users globally both on Twitter for iOS, Android, and twitter.com.

Twitter is also coming up with a new layout for replies and more accessible retweets with comments which the company says will make it easier to read all conversations around a particular tweet.

Apple iPhones finally have a solution for FaceID while wearing a mask

Apple iPhones finally have a solution for FaceID while wearing a mask

Apple has managed to find a way around the problem of using FaceID while using masks. ... With the new update, Apple has created a shortcut on the screen to enter the passcode immediately. This shortcut will appear as soon as you swipe up to unlock the device.

Apple has created a shortcut on the screen to enter the passcode immediately

Another feature added in the update is the inclusion of Apple and Google's new API for exposure notification

Apple has started rolling out the iOS 13.5 update to users and it includes two new additional features that have been made necessary due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Apple has managed to find a way around the problem of using FaceID while using masks.

Since many governments across the globe are making it mandatory to wear face masks while venturing out, the feature was much awaited as many iPhone users prefer FaceID over other unlocking methods. The lack of another biometric verification also made it tough for users to unlock their phones immediately.

Earlier, iPhone users wearing a mask would have to wait for the phone to first try to ID your face and only then provide the option of entering the passcode. With the new update, Apple has created a shortcut on the screen to enter the passcode immediately. This shortcut will appear as soon as you swipe up to unlock the device. There'll be no need to wait for the FaceID to attempt unlocking unsuccessfully.

Another major feature that has been introduced in the new update is the inclusion of Apple and Google's new API for exposure notification. This new update will allow apps released by agencies to verify if the user may have been in close proximity who has been diagnosed with Covid-19. The new API will remain inactive till the time the user installs one of the agency applications.

Apart from these two new features, Apple has also included a change in Group FaceTime. Earlier, participants in a FaceTime Group call were arranged by detecting speech and altering the size of their chat window. With iOS 13.5, users will get the option to turn this feature off.

Twitter is soon to introduce a feature that will provide users with more control on their tweets. To help people avoid unwanted replies that flood their tweets, Twitter has launched a new test where the users can have three options to choose from who can reply and join the conversation before they tweet

To help people avoid unwanted replies that flood their tweets, Twitter has launched a new test where the users can have three options to choose from who can reply and join the conversation before they tweet.

You will be able to choose from three options: everyone (standard Twitter, and the default setting), only people you follow, or only people you mention. Tweets with the latter two settings will be labelled and the reply icon will be greyed out so that it's clear for people if they can't reply.

"People who can't reply will still be able to view, Retweet, Retweet with Comment, and like these Tweets," the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

For now, only a limited group of people globally on Twitter for iOS, Android, and twitter.com can Tweet with these settings, but everyone can see these conversations.

"Since last year, we've been working to give people more control over their conversations starting with the ability to hide replies," said Twitter.

In addition to this, Twitter is making it easier to read all conversations around a Tweet with a new layout for replies and more accessible Retweets with comments.

Apple releases iOS 13.5 with COVID-19 specific features

Apple releases iOS 13.5 with COVID-19 specific features

Apple has released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 with features relevant to our post-COVID-19 world. Chief among these is a simplified unlock process for devices with Face ID for those who wear masks, which goes without saying should be everyone working outdoors.

What the new system does is automatically show the passcode field when it detects you are wearing a face mask, so you can just directly enter the passcode and bypass Face ID. This works for unlocking the device and also in apps for things like payments.

The other COVID-19 relevant feature is the support for Exposure Notification API to support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities. The feature was built in collaboration with Google, who is also releasing it today alongside Apple. This isn't an app in itself but rather an API which will allow others to build apps that can leverage this feature. The feature is completely optional, at least for apps that explicitly use the API but it's worth remembering not all contact tracing apps use this API and thus won't benefit from Apple and Google's security and privacy features so, as usual, be careful with what you install.

Apple is also changing the way the automatic prominence feature for video tiles during Group FaceTime calls works. Currently, whenever you are on a Group FaceTime call, the video tile of the person currently speaking gets larger automatically but with this update you can now choose to disable that feature so all tiles remain the same size.

Apple has also added an option to automatically share health and other essential information from your Medical ID with emergency services when you place an emergency call (US only).

The update also includes some bug fixes, such as black screen while playing streaming video from some websites and share sheet suggestions and actions not loading.

13.5 is now available for download on all compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality| More Than Your Game
Virtual reality exists to convince us that we are somewhere else when we are actually not there creating the illusion of experience in our brain with a VR headgear. We have seen it all especially in gaming zones, technical environments or in movies. The Virtual Reality market is projected to reach Usd 28.3 billion by 2020. However, this is just the start, and its technology will greatly innovate various sectors some of which are discussed below.
1. Education
With the implementation of VR in education systems, the concept of learning will change with it. Lessons will be more dynamic and practical. With VR technology, students can travel through different eras for history lessons and meet famous pioneers from 100’s of years ago. They can visually experience unique environments for their geography lessons, create virtual labs for scientific tests and more. Overall making lessons and homework fun and interesting.

2. Entertainment
Since the creation of VR for entertainment, we have seen exponential growth in this field for the past few years. You can enjoy your favorite sports and games in your virtual stadium, watch your favorite movies in your personal cinema, or transport yourself to virtual music concerts. Recording of 360* videos with our VR headsets will enable us to connect and share them with other people, so they can watch the video and feel as if they were there. Gaming has greatly benefited from VR at this current stage.

3. Health Care
In the field of health care, VR will lead to more efficient health care systems. It can provide a virtual setup for doctors to operate on. Experiments and research can be carried on in virtually created environments, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. VR can create a new way to train surgeons without causing any injury to real-life patients; there will be less pressure on the trainees as they will be allowed to make mistakes. Patients can face phobias and anxieties through the power of VR and help defeat them.

The above-mentioned topics are the sectors where VR will be in demand in the coming years and have a great impact. The innovation of VR can also be seen in other fields such as a real estate where home buyers will be able to view homes through VR. They’ll be able to visit the house before it is even built. The army can use VR to train soldiers to deal with combat situations without throwing them into a dangerous environment. In the next 30 years, tourism could be overthrown by VR as headsets offer an inexpensive way to travel to a variety of destinations around the globe.

The Dark web

Everything You Need To Know About The Dark Web!

Dark web is a place on internet where the things work in a different manner. There are two terms basically deep web and dark web. Well they are similar in a way but are different terminologies. Dark web is considered to be a subset of deep web where illegal activities such as selling of drugs, fake weapons, illicit videos, etc can be found. But everything is not illegal and depends on the way the user is accessing the web.

There is a small part of the internet which is available for a normal user to access it from a common search engine. Most of the activities which is safely used in daily life can be accessed from the search engine like google, etc. and is available easily are a part of the clear web. Whereas the large part of the internet is covered by the deep web.

In order to enter into the dark web the user must be alert and should also avoid any illegal activities. Dark web is accessible with the help of tor browser which is available as a free browser on internet. The main concern is not getting tracked and to remain anonymous for browsing on the deep web. Hence with the help of Tor browser it becomes easy to not get traced and remain anonymous. There are volunteers all around the world who operates the proxy servers by routing the page requests and keeping users IP address unidentified and untraceable.

The websites on the dark web seems similar to any other site but ends with .onion and not with .com .in and hence they require specific browser in order to access them. Hence browser like Tor (the onion router) are being used. These dark web sites are specifically connected with the help of Tor network

Many activities are live at the dark web and most of the services are paid by using crypto-currencies. This ensures the safety as well as anonymity of the buyers and sellers. Besides buying and selling there are sensitive information which are live and can be seen. Various police related activities also takes place in order keep the track of law on digital platforms.
